Chemical and Engineering News reports that more and more, researchers are finding that the effects seen in animals exposed to the plastics’ chemical bisphenol A (BPA), found in “clear plastic baby bottles and many types of food and drink containers,” correlate with the effects seen in humans. The article further reports that exposure to BPA over a lifetime, or even before birth, can influence the reproductive processes of the adult. According to the article, another type of chemical that could be responsible for this decline in men’s reproductive health are phthalates, which are allegedly added to plastics to make them more flexible.
