States and Cities Take Action Against Toxins

The USA Today reports that rather than waiting for approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), states and cities are taking steps toward banning toxic substances found in consumer goods. Among such toxins of concern is Bisphenol A. This chemical reportedly gives plastic its smooth texture, but according to lab tests, it can allegedly cause developmental problems. The state of Maine held a hearing on a bill to bar the sale of some children’s plastic products, such as baby bottles.
