Consumers Concerned About BPA Urged to Choose Glass

According to Reuters, bisphenol A (BPA)—added to some hard plastics like those used in reusable water bottles and baby bottles as well as the resins that line certain food cans—poses a serious health risk. Research on lab animals has allegedly linked BPA to changes to the genital tract, prostate enlargement, declined testosterone, pre-cancerous breast cells, prostate cancer, early puberty in females and hyperactivity. Tests for bisphenol A (BPA) in human bodies have allegedly found the chemical “at levels that were producing serious health risks in animal studies.” According to Reuters, “concerned consumers can reduce their exposure by choosing glass containers over plastic and fresh or frozen foods over canned.”
