According to the “San Francisco Chronicle,” a bill introduced to ban bisphenol A (BPA) in infant formula cans and baby bottles in California failed to pass in the Assembly. Supporters of the BPA ban reportedly believe the bill failed to pass because the chemical and pharmaceutical industry mounted a ruthless lobbying campaign to persuade members of the Assembly to vote no. BPA’s potential to disrupt the hormonal system has made its use in baby food products controversial, and in recent years the chemical has been a hot topic in the news.
