The “New York Times” reports the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) recent announcement about the concern over the safety of bisphenol A (BPA) sheds little light on how dangerous the chemical might be in the small amounts that leach out and are imbibed by infants and older people — or how rigorously it should be regulated. The FDA will reportedly seek more robust and flexible regulatory authority to clamp down on the chemical if the evidence warrants; however, studies on the subject are expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. According to the article, “While waiting for the regulators to amass more conclusive evidence, wise consumers will try to avoid BPA.”
