“The Associated Press” reports a bill to ban a chemical used in rigid plastic baby bottles and “sippy cups” failed last week on a tie vote in the Oregon Senate. Advocates of the bill wanted to ban products used by children younger than 3 years old that contain bisphenol A (BPA), claiming the federal government has failed to regulate the hormone disrupter that can leach from food containers and pose multiple health hazards for fetuses and young children.
