CBS News reports 82-year-old Jean Hill of Concord, Mass., proposed a resolution to ban the selling of still water in plastic bottles in her town. Hill is most concerned about the “trashing of our planet.” According to CBS, only 27 percent of used plastic water bottles are recycled, while the rest are thrown away. Americans consume 39 billion gallons of bottled water per year. The bottled water industry asserts that bottled water only accounts for one percent of our waste stream.
